Okay so it must be a God day for me because this is my second post and second one about God (although technically it is Saturday now.)

Went out to dinner with my friend for a girls night out (something we have decided to do monthly.) Afterwards, she said, "Have you seen that show on Sundance?" She isn't a Christian per se, but she is open to discussion about Him. So anyways, the show is called One Punk Under God

The main guy is this tatted down, pierced guy who wears Social Distortion Tshirts. He is also the son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. He grew up in a house that lived "the church," but then his dad was caught stealing tons of money from the church and cheated on Tammy Faye. You could say his childhood was a mess because of this. It is people like him that my generation are still apologizing for and trying to distance ourselves from.

He decided not to grow up like his father, or resent God or the church for that matter. He decided to embrace God and try and grow a church, but to do it the way he felt called to do it; in coffee houses, pubs, and street corners. He hands out stickers that say, "We're Christians, and we're sorry for the judgement and condemnation." He believes in gay marriage (as do I). My friend kept asking me if this was bad or not. Honestly, I came close to crying a few times, but not in shock at what he has done with his faith, but in awe of what he has done with his faith.

He seems to recognize the main focus of progressive churches in the United States - Jesus didn't judge and condemn. Jesus didn't call someone a fucking faggot or a cheating whore. Jesus didn't embrace people because they were wearing rich clothes or had an extensive education. He didn't look down on the poor. He welcomed everyone to him and taught them not to judge others lest they themselves wanted to be judged. Man and The Church did that. That is a human quiality, not a God quality. And that is the very foundation we have to rupture to get people to understand... the church has changed. People say that there is no need to follow the bible because it was time dated material. Well true, but the book's message can be adapted to current life, just as the modern church has.

So, what I am saying is that it is an awesome show and a 6 part series that is restarting next Thursday on the Sundance channel. It isn't holier than thou. It isn't preaching. It is a real guy, like a lot of us, who just happens to love God and wants to share his life with others. I invite others to watch it.

Goodnight.
