Blizzard can handle 10 million people playing World of Warcraft online. But sell a few thousand tickets to fans for the upcoming BlizzCon fan convention?

Ha! After major outages Monday due to an overloaded system, few fans actually bought a ticket yesterday. Blizzard wound up postponing ticket sales last night while it fixed its equipment. Lots of ridicule against the Irvine company for the annoyance.

Tickets are supposed to attempt to go on sale at the start of business day this morning. But there’s no mention of who’s business day that is. As of 8:30 a.m., BlizzCon tickets still are not for sale and if you try to buy one, you’ll still get this page.

Shon Damron, a Blizzard media guy, messaged me back last night saying:

We had some technical difficulties with the site due to the volume of purchase requests that have been coming through, but we’ve made some optimizations to help manage the load. If/when tickets sell out, we’ll definitely let everyone know.

Sigh. Blizzard advises that fans check its site and forums for updates.

Saddleback Church is charging $500 + for tickets for the whole Obama / McCain gig they are doing. Money received above and beyond the costs of the production are "going to the PEACE plan." Apparently they limited the seats to members of the church and selected members from each party, so I'm not really sure you could even call this a public forum.

Talk about mixing politics and faith. This is bad. Really, really bad.

Yay Mariner's Church!

So tonight was Mariner's night at Angel Stadium. They played the Mariners and well, there was a whole lotta church people there in red T-shirts that said Angels 08 Mariner's Church. We had terrace level seats (out in the boonies but thank GOD they were in the shade) and wouldn't you know who sat two rows behind us but Pastor Jeff Pries.

So I did the whole, "I really should say something, but I don't want to come off like a dork," anyways, I finally turned around and said hi and that we had taken his pre-marital class back in February. Chris turned around and Jeff goes, "Oh yeah hi!" (We made a funny impression on the class because we were one of the very few / only ones not engaged by the end of the 5 week class.) So then I said, "You're marrying us in November!" So he joked and said, "Does my assistant know this?" and pointed to the woman directly behind me which I came to find out had been the one I had been emailing with since Day 1 about the class, about getting married at the church and about having Jeff marry us. Of course he was there with his 4 small kids and she kept making jokes that he took his rowdy bunch to all the weddings he performs.

The Angels were really choking in the beginning and I thought we were going to lose, but after Juan Rivera hit a homer, it just kinda all fell together for the team.

For any locals on my flist who shops at Stater Bros, apparently there is some beef recall that just hit the news. There isn't a lot of info yet, so check and see if you have any. I shop there, but have been buying my beef at Fresh and Easy.
