So today is Harley's birthday and he turned 10. I bought him a new leash; one of those ones that goes over the head and nose and doesn't choke. I've read the directions twice and still can't figure out how to get it on the dog. At least the bone I got him can be put to good use today.
I finally remembered my log in on my church's website. From there I was not only able to give online to the Katrina fund, but to also set up automatic weekly payments for my tithe and campaign fund. For those on my flist who think "WTF? A church who offered auto withdraw for tithing? How tacky." never fear - it isn't something they advertise or pressure you with, it is simply offered as a convenience for those of us who prefer to pay bills online and hate writing checks. I love it.
I was also touched to find out the impact of the finanical contributions we've been making church-to-church. The 3,700 "sister" churches which have been effected are rebuilding and opening their doors to everyone with clothes, first aid, showers and places to sleep.
I also found out that FEMA has tons of beds and supplies that they are handing out to these centers - but they can't give anything to the churches who are making such an impact because, well we have to keep churches seperated from government. Now's the time for me to scream WTF? I understand and agree with a lot of the seperation of church and state in the normal sense, but in times of a natural catastrophe and to see churches who are becoming safe havens for people - to get that kind of response from FEMA I say FUCK YOU. You wonder why I have so little faith in our government. Aren't we all supposed to be banding together right now? Yeah, unless you're a Christian apparently.
